What the margin field represents
The field compares the provider customer rate with an independent market reference for the same currency direction. It helps explain cost embedded in conversion.
It does not include a separate fee and therefore cannot rank total transfer cost on its own.
Why route counts belong beside averages
The current margin endpoint showed very different eligible route counts by provider. An average over 189 routes is not directly comparable in breadth with one over 11.
The report retains the count and avoids filling missing providers with zero.
How to interpret zero and non-zero values
A recorded zero can reflect a customer rate aligned with the benchmark while a separate fee applies. A larger margin can still produce a competitive payout if fees and route conditions differ.
Use recipient amount for a matched transaction and margin as an explanatory diagnostic.
How this result was produced
Current snapshot uses £1,000 standard quotes with a non-null independent mid-rate and excludes comparison or seed baselines.
These are quote observations, not completed transfers. Results apply only to the named routes, dates, amounts and methods; they do not predict a future quote or measure delivery reliability.
