Choose Sendwave when…

Sendwave fits a sender whose recipient already uses a supported mobile wallet or wants a straightforward local-currency deposit. The app asks for the recipient details and displays a route-specific quote before confirmation. On a qualifying route, there may be no separate transfer fee. That line should not be mistaken for a mid-market guarantee: Sendwave says its customer rate can include a margin. The relevant check is what arrives for the exact amount and payout.

It is also the more obvious first try when the sender is working from a phone and needs a recipient search by phone number or a Wallet transfer. The Wallet is a separate product from a normal local-currency remittance. In the US, Sendwave describes a digital-dollar balance for a recipient Wallet, with local cash-out in selected countries. A Wallet transfer cannot be compared with OFX’s ordinary bank payout as if they were the same delivery.

03

Choose OFX when…

OFX is designed for a bank recipient and a sender prepared to book an FX transaction. The service highlights customer rates, a dealing team available around the clock in many markets, regular payments and tools for fixing or watching a rate. A customer may pre-save beneficiary details, send funds to OFX and track the transfer. This workflow has more steps than a small app remittance, but it can make sense when the payment is a property purchase, tuition bill, salary transfer or recurring business invoice.

OFX’s UK FAQ gives a £100 minimum. The minimum and any below-threshold fee are market-specific, so do not port the UK rule to an Australian or US account. OFX’s rate includes a margin, and a correspondent or recipient bank can deduct a charge. A “no transfer fee” example therefore does not settle the landed cost until the recipient amount and route are known.

04

Standard pricing versus a first transfer

The archive result is standard mode only. That is the correct baseline for a repeat customer. Sendwave can surface promotional exchange rates, cashback or Wallet incentives for eligible customers, while OFX’s US rates page describes an introductory rate for a new personal customer’s first eligible spot transfer in selected currencies. Those conditions are not permanent prices.

For a fair first-send worksheet, record eligibility, minimum, maximum eligible principal, code, funding method and expiry. Apply the benefit only to the covered slice. If the offer changes the rate for the first £500 of a £1,000 transfer, calculate the remainder at the ordinary live price and retain any stated fee. A standard comparison should remain visible beside the offer calculation.

05

Account access and verification

Sendwave asks a user to register in a supported sending market, add a payment card in the customer’s own name and provide recipient information. The provider can request identity, source-of-funds or security information. Limits appear in the app and can depend on location, account history and verification. A low-value approval should not be treated as automatic approval for a larger amount.

OFX registration is also identity-led, but the customer is booking a bank FX transaction. OFX’s workflow requires the sender to send cleared funds to the designated OFX account before the onward payment can complete. Beneficiary details can be stored for later use, but they must be checked each time. Because the transaction is binding after funds are booked, a sender should resolve payment questions before confirming.

The choice is partly about preparation. Sendwave can be convenient for an established card-and-recipient relationship; OFX can be more suitable when the sender wants to set up beneficiaries, discuss a larger payment or plan several future transfers. Both may pause a payment for routine compliance review.

06

Funding and payout

Sendwave’s ordinary flow is card-led in many sending markets. The card must be eligible and in the sender’s name, and a payment can fail if the bank declines the transaction or the card country does not match the account. The payout might be a mobile wallet, bank account, selected cash service or Sendwave Wallet. Check the exact method after choosing the sending and receiving markets.

OFX’s UK material says it does not accept cash or cheque. Bank transfer is central, and payment methods differ by country; a US customer may see ACH or bank wire options while another market sees a different path. OFX pays the recipient’s bank account. It should not be shortlisted for cash pickup or a wallet requirement unless a current product flow explicitly says otherwise.

This method distinction is essential to the numbers. A wallet recipient may value immediate usable funds more than a small bank-quote difference. A property seller may require a bank credit and documentation, making OFX’s bank-led process more appropriate even if Sendwave’s local quote appears attractive.

07

Fees, rates and amount effects

Sendwave explains that the cost depends on currency, amount, payment method and recipient method. A separate fee can be small or absent, but the customer exchange rate may contain a margin. At £100, the rate margin can matter more than a line-item fee. At £1,000, both the rate and any percentage charge become easier to see. Compare the final local-currency amount and the sender’s debit, not just “fee-free” language.

OFX also makes money through its customer-rate margin. A nominal fee can be absent in the UK while a fee applies below a market minimum elsewhere. Intermediary or beneficiary banks can deduct charges before the recipient receives funds. OFX’s customer calculator is therefore the right evidence for the exact currencies, amount and route; a public mid-market converter is only a reference.

If the amount grows beyond a routine remittance, ask OFX about a customised rate and ask Sendwave where the account’s daily or monthly limit sits. Never infer that a 0.3% difference on a small quote will remain the same at a large principal.

08

Speed and tracking

Sendwave positions itself around fast remittances, especially local-wallet delivery. The actual estimate depends on the destination partner, funding authorisation, recipient method, weekends and checks. A bank or cash payout should not be described as instant merely because a wallet route can be.

OFX’s delivery estimate begins after OFX receives and clears the sender’s funds. Major-currency payments are commonly described in business-day terms, while exotic currencies or correspondent banks can take longer. The customer can track the payment online, in the app or by contacting an OFXpert. A sender with a same-day need should not wait until the bank cutoff to discover that funding has not cleared.

Both providers can show a reassuring estimate before the final operational steps. Save the quote and status reference, and plan around the slower plausible step when the payment is important.

09

Coverage and limits

Sendwave’s route list spans selected markets in North America and Europe sending to Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, but all four payout types are not present on every route. The Wallet’s digital-dollar capability has a separate country list and is not identical to local-currency delivery.

OFX advertises more than 50 currencies and a wide destination set, but the customer’s registered market, currency and beneficiary bank govern the available transfer. OFX says it has no universal maximum in some market guidance, while a local minimum or bank limit may still apply. Sendwave publishes account limits that change with location and history rather than one global number.

The correct test is to enter the same sender location, destination, amount and payout in both flows. A service that cannot offer the needed rail is not a losing price quote; it is a different product fit.

10

Safety, cancellation and support

Sendwave’s support and security pages identify regional legal entities and explain account protections. OFX publishes regulatory, safeguarding, fraud-monitoring and complaint information for its local entities. Those disclosures are useful context but do not make every payment irreversible or remove the need to protect login details and one-time codes.

Cancellation is urgent with both services. Sendwave can try to stop an eligible transfer before payout, but it cannot promise reversal once a wallet, bank or cash partner has completed delivery. OFX says a booked transfer is binding and the customer should call immediately; cancelling can leave the sender liable for a loss caused by the locked rate or market move. This makes recipient-detail checking before confirmation particularly important with OFX.

Sendwave support is primarily in-app, while OFX combines self-service with phone and email channels. For a pending payment, provide the reference, sender account, recipient details, card or bank confirmation and the timestamp. Keep customer sentiment separate from these documented routes.

11

What the historical evidence does—and does not—say

The public BestSendRate catalogue checked on 4 September 2026 listed 54,506 Sendwave observations from 20 July to 3 September and 440 OFX observations from 21 July to 3 September. A catalogue count is stored quote volume, not completed-transfer volume or a customer count.

The validated pair study retained positive, high- or medium-confidence, non-legacy rows with identified funding and payout. It matched the exact key date | route | amount | mode | payIn | payOut, used standard mode and bank-to-bank delivery, and compared recipient amounts only within the same key. There were 431 exact checks: 431 Sendwave wins, 0 OFX wins and 0 ties. The observed shares are 100.0% Sendwave and 0.0% OFX in that sample.

This is not a claim about OFX’s large-transfer tools, because the sample is a bank quote slice and does not measure customer-rate negotiations or forward contracts. It is not a claim that Sendwave will beat OFX today. Rates, eligibility, fees and route availability change. Run a new quote for the actual transfer.

12

Customer sentiment is not price evidence

Sendwave customer themes include appreciation for a simple app and quick local delivery, alongside reports about verification holds, refunds and support when a transfer leaves the normal path. OFX themes include praise for helpful currency specialists and clear bank transfers, alongside complaints about account access, compliance checks and delayed responses. Reviews are self-selected accounts; they are not a reliability rate and cannot change the 431-row calculation.
