01

Two different product shapes

Remitly starts with a recipient and destination. Its UK service describes Economy and Express delivery, and selected corridors can offer bank deposits, mobile-wallet credit, cash pickup or home delivery. The choice is useful for family support, emergency cash or a recipient without a bank account. The exact local partner, currency, identification requirement and estimate must be selected in the live order.

OFX starts with an FX transfer to a named bank account. A customer registers, verifies identity, books a rate, funds the deal and tracks release. OFX also describes regular payments, forward contracts, limit orders and a Global Currency Account in eligible markets. Those features can help a business, property owner or recurring sender, but they do not turn the ordinary personal route into cash pickup or mobile money.

The comparison should therefore start with the payout rail. If the recipient must collect cash, OFX is normally the wrong product shape and Remitly’s availability should be checked. If the recipient has a bank account and the sender wants a planned larger transfer, OFX deserves a live quote alongside Remitly’s bank option.

02

Account access and verification

Both providers require account information and may ask for identity, address, recipient and purpose details. Verification can depend on sender country, amount, payment instrument, history and compliance checks. A small successful quote is not proof that a larger transfer will clear without additional questions.

Remitly’s order flow lets the sender select the destination and delivery method, add recipient details and pay. OFX says it verifies identity before a first transfer and can request further information. OFX customers may need to send funds from an accepted bank account after booking; the transfer is not released merely because an indicative quote was displayed.

Use the exact legal name and account information in both services. OFX beneficiary details need to match the receiving bank, while Remitly wallet or cash orders need the recipient’s local identifier and, where applicable, collection identity. A correction after submission can become a support case rather than a simple edit.

Access includes funding eligibility. Remitly can be convenient for a card-funded urgent send. OFX’s UK guidance covers bank and debit-card routes, including a stated debit-card ceiling per deal. The current checkout and local terms override a generic article, so check them before planning a large payment.

03

Funding and payout methods

Remitly’s UK checkout can show debit or credit card funding and other methods depending on the order. Card payment may support faster release but can be declined by an issuer or carry an external charge. The recipient may receive a bank deposit, wallet credit, cash pickup or home delivery when those options exist for the corridor.

OFX is funded after the rate is booked, commonly by bank payment; eligible markets can also expose debit-card funding. Follow the exact reference instructions and allow time for OFX to match the funds. A debit-card limit can make a bank payment the practical route for a larger amount. OFX’s regular-payment tools can arrange scheduled funding in eligible currencies.

OFX’s standard consumer payout is a bank account. Remitly’s broader payout menu can be decisive where the recipient is unbanked or wants a wallet. Compare bank with bank when doing price research. A bank deposit and a cash pickup should be treated as different services even if the sender amount is identical.

04

Fees and exchange-rate margins

The meaningful price is the recipient amount after provider fee and conversion. A separate card issuer, intermediary or beneficiary-bank charge can sit outside the quote. The displayed rate alone is not enough, and a “no transfer fee” claim is not the same as receiving the market-rate conversion.

OFX says its customer rate includes a margin from the wholesale or market reference. Its UK pages use fee-free wording for some transfers while warning that intermediary or beneficiary banks can deduct charges. The sender should record the quoted rate, any OFX fee, the expected recipient amount and whether the receiving bank may charge separately. On a large transfer, a small rate margin can outweigh a nominal fee.

Remitly pricing changes with corridor, amount, pay-in and delivery speed. Express can cost more than Economy. A first-transfer banner must be read with its cap, eligibility and expiry. When a promotion is valid, calculate eligible principal at the promo rate, remaining principal at the ordinary rate and keep the fee. If the base quote or cap is not recorded, do not publish a numerical saving.

Amount effects are important. OFX’s £100 UK minimum means it is not designed for every tiny remittance. A fixed fee or card rule weighs differently at £100 than at £5,000. Remitly may have low introductory pricing on a limited slice, while its repeat quote returns to standard economics. Test the amount you actually plan to send, not an example from another customer.

05

Speed, funding receipt and tracking

Remitly shows an estimated delivery promise tied to the selected Economy or Express route. Payment receipt, verification, holidays, local operating hours and partner processing can affect it. Express is an option, not a universal delivery guarantee.

OFX says major currencies usually arrive in one to two business days after it receives the sender’s funds, while some exotic currencies may take longer. The clock therefore starts with cleared funding rather than with the first quote screen. A bank’s own posting time and compliance review can add delay.

Both services provide status information and a reference. OFX customers can track online, in the app or by contacting an OFXpert. Remitly customers can use the order status journey. If a status stalls, check for a payment-reference mismatch or document request before sending a duplicate. Save the original quote and receipt until the recipient confirms the credit.

06

Coverage, limits and transfer size

Remitly says its service reaches more than 175 countries and territories, but method availability is corridor-specific. OFX describes 50-plus currencies and 170-plus destinations in its current material, with availability dependent on residence and currency. These broad counts are not interchangeable coverage guarantees.

OFX states that it does not enforce a universal maximum in one FAQ, while noting that a customer’s bank can impose daily limits. Its UK debit-card guidance states a per-deal ceiling. Remitly can also set account, funding and local payout limits and may request extra verification as value rises. Always inspect the logged-in quote and terms.

For a £100 household send, Remitly may be more natural if the recipient wants a wallet or cash. For a £10,000 bank payment, OFX’s specialist support and rate-planning features may be valuable, but compare the margin and bank charges. A larger amount does not automatically make OFX cheaper; it makes the price difference more material.

07

Safety, cancellation and support

Remitly’s UK terms identify its UK electronic-money framework and publish order and refund conditions. OFX identifies UKForex Limited trading as OFX as FCA-regulated for electronic money and payment services, and describes safeguarding and security controls. The relevant legal entity depends on the sender market.

Use official websites or apps, verify the recipient independently and protect passwords and authentication codes. OFX’s bank-led flow makes beneficiary-account accuracy especially important. Remitly cash pickup requires the recipient to use the approved agent and identification. Neither regulatory status nor a polished app removes the risk of impersonation scams.

Cancel immediately if the recipient or amount is wrong. Remitly’s UK terms describe an attempted refund within three business days for qualifying cancellations, subject to order state. OFX cancellation depends on whether the deal has been funded, released or paid to the beneficiary, and a bank return can involve additional time or charges. Contact the provider with the reference before trying to reverse a bank payment independently.

Support needs clear evidence. Include the quote, transaction reference, funding timestamp, beneficiary details and status text. OFX’s dealing-desk model may suit a sender who wants phone assistance; Remitly’s help path is designed around the app and web order. A support response is not the same as a completed refund, so keep monitoring until the money is credited back.

08

Customer sentiment is not price proof

Trustpilot reviews can highlight themes such as quick Remitly delivery, useful OFX staff, clear tracking, verification friction, login trouble, delayed bank credits or refund concerns. These are individual accounts from different countries and routes. They do not show a controlled sample or establish a normal delivery time.

Read the current profiles for questions to investigate, then use official terms and the live quote for decisions. A positive OFX review about a helpful dealer does not validate its exchange rate. A critical Remitly review about a delayed cash payout does not establish the performance of a bank deposit. Keep sentiment beside, not inside, the numerical price evidence.

09

Which provider should you choose?

Choose Remitly when recipient access is the priority: cash pickup, wallet, home delivery or an Express option. It is also a reasonable first check for a small family transfer where OFX’s minimum or bank-only payout is inconvenient. Confirm whether a first-transfer offer is standard, capped and still eligible.

Choose OFX when the recipient has a bank account, the amount meets the local minimum, and you value recurring payments, forward contracts, limit orders or a human dealing contact. OFX can be useful for a planned property, tuition or business-related payment, but the customer-rate margin and third-party bank costs must be included.

If both offer the same bank route, enter the same source amount, currency, pay-in and beneficiary country. Compare the expected recipient amount, not only the separate fee. If only Remitly supports the required payout, that is a service-fit decision. If only OFX supports the planned FX tool or amount, use its terms and funding instructions before booking.

10

A practical pre-send worksheet

For a fair decision, open both providers on the same day and write down the quote time, source amount, destination currency, delivery method and payment method. For Remitly, record whether the order is Express or Economy and whether an offer is shown. For OFX, record when the rate was booked and when the funding instructions were issued. This matters because OFX’s delivery estimate begins after cleared funds arrive, while Remitly’s displayed promise is tied to the selected delivery route.

Add the beneficiary’s bank or wallet details only after confirming them independently. A convenient low quote is not useful if the recipient’s institution rejects the currency or the wallet is above its limit. Keep the receipt, reference and support case number until the recipient confirms the credit. This small record also makes a later cancellation or compliance conversation far easier to resolve.

For a repeat payment, repeat the worksheet with the ordinary quote. Do not let a capped Remitly first-transfer rate or an OFX introductory message become the assumed price for future sends. If the recipient’s need changes from bank deposit to cash pickup, restart the comparison because the product and delivery costs have changed.

BestSendRate archive and exact-key method

The BestSendRate public catalogue lists 408,803 canonical Remitly observations from 20 July to 3 September 2026 and 440 canonical OFX observations from 21 July to 3 September 2026. They are stored quote observations, not completed transfers, bank receipts or customer counts.

This page publishes no Remitly–OFX numerical winner. The prior Remitly rows do not preserve the complete standard base rate, promotional cap, fee and quote key required for a defensible aggregate. A valid study would pair records only when date, route, send amount, mode, pay-in, pay-out, source currency and destination currency all match. It would exclude legacy, unknown, low-confidence, non-positive and quarantined records.

For each exact key, calculate final recipient amount after fee. For a qualifying Remitly offer, apply the promotional rate to the eligible principal cap and the base rate to the remainder; keep the actual fee. Keep standard and promotional groups separate. Count a win only if both values are positive and comparable, and report the number of keys and amount split alongside the formula. The result would describe recorded quotes, not completed transfers, universal rank or guaranteed savings.

Common questions

Remitly vs OFX: bank-led FX planning or flexible remittance delivery? FAQs

Is Remitly cheaper than OFX?

There is no universal answer. Compare the current all-in recipient amount on the same bank route, amount and funding method.

Is OFX a cash-pickup service?

OFX’s ordinary consumer flow is bank-led. Remitly is the more natural check when the recipient needs cash, subject to route availability.

Does OFX have a minimum transfer?

The UK FAQ states a £100 minimum in major currencies; local rules may differ.

Does OFX have a maximum?

OFX says it does not enforce a universal maximum in its guidance, but banks, cards and compliance controls can impose limits.

Can Remitly pay a bank account?

Yes on selected corridors. Confirm the recipient institution and payout currency in the live order.

Can Remitly pay a wallet?

Selected corridors support mobile wallets. The exact wallet must appear in the destination options.

Does OFX support large transfers?

Its bank-led model and specialist tools suit larger planned payments, subject to verification and bank limits.

Are Remitly Express and OFX one-to-two days comparable?

No. Remitly’s estimate depends on delivery choice; OFX’s clock generally starts after cleared funds reach OFX.

Does OFX charge a transfer fee?

Some UK routes are described as fee-free, but the customer-rate margin and possible bank deductions still affect value.

Does Remitly’s promo rate cover the full send?

Only if its terms say so. Otherwise apply the rate to the eligible cap and use the base rate for the remainder.

Can I fund OFX by debit card?

Some UK guidance allows debit-card funding with a stated per-deal ceiling. Confirm eligibility in the current account.

Can I fund Remitly by card?

Card methods are available in selected markets and orders. The live checkout controls the option and any fee.

Can I schedule OFX transfers?

OFX describes Regular Payments in eligible currencies. Setup, funding and rate terms should be checked before relying on a schedule.

Can OFX lock a rate?

OFX describes forward contracts and limit orders for eligible customers and currencies; these are distinct from a simple spot quote.

What if bank details are wrong?

Contact support immediately. Recovery becomes harder once a bank, wallet or cash payout has been released.

Can I cancel a Remitly order?

Cancellation depends on status. A qualifying UK refund attempt is described in Remitly’s terms, but payout can limit recovery.

Are Trustpilot reviews reliable price evidence?

No. They are individual sentiment reports, not controlled route-matched quote observations.

Why is there no historical winner?

The required cap-aware Remitly fields are not consistently validated for a clean pairwise aggregate, so no number is invented.

What should I save before payment?

Save amount, fee, rate, recipient amount, payout, pay-in, delivery estimate, promotion terms and reference.

Which is better for recurring family support?

Use the provider with a supported sustainable payout and standard quote. A one-time offer should not drive a recurring decision.
